Fractured Reflections Of A Not Too Distant Past

Like a visceral crush of regret
the things that live in history
do so in disorder, moving in
linear form convergences with
the present are rare.

Those imparting weight
and sting rarer still, and why
today in the cedar grove where
our distant, weathered images
reside, a patch of your flannel
still on the tree from which it
tore, I sat and wept aching
for the things I let go on
without us.
