Self Portrait II

Stunted, raw and mildly
obsessed capable only
of minimal, base response
a consuming yet ambivalent
focus, what it meant to live again.

Present, alive, glad of it I was
hopeful through loss realizing
absence and bounty not as
competing binary but as ancient,
essential tension.

Committed to forward ascent
adjusting on shifting terrain I
allowed grief’s banality and trusted
in time momentum would return
then embraced the unexpected
thrill of resilience.
